Why It Happens Here
DeSoto sits inside a service area where housing runs 1959 through 2010 with a median build year of 1993, and DeSoto's own housing lines up right at that median. That means most openers here are chain or belt-drive units from the 1990s or early 2000s - a generation before rolling-code security boards and battery backup became standard. Those older units don't fail because DeSoto has harsher weather than anywhere else; the service area sits in a moderate heat band, not an extreme one. They fail because thirty-year-old gearing and capacitors wear out on a schedule, and that schedule is now due across a big share of this town's garage stock.
The practical result: when we get a DeSoto call, we're rarely swapping a five-year-old opener for another five-year-old opener. We're pulling a unit that's been running since the house was newer than the owner's car payment, and putting in something built to current safety-sensor and rolling-code standards.
How Long You Are Without the Door
